Description
“Qajar Calligrapher Women” was an important event held in Golestan Palace–the former royal Qajar complex in Iran’s capital city, Tehran. The palace retains the invaluable collections of manuscripts and important calligraphy pieces since Qajar era. This event was to open a part of the palace collection to the public to visit and get to know the calligraphies done by Qajar women. The opening happened with the presence of the president of Iran and some of the parliament representatives.
Process
I was asked to make a poster focusing on Qajar women and calligraphy both. The first image came to my mind was a qajar woman whose skirt is extended with calligraphy. I searched for a famous Qajar woman to place into my work, and used some parts of a Qajar manuscript illustration on the background for the chair crown, as if the woman is leaning on. The way I placed the information is a simulation of an old manuscript from Qajar era. The client asked me to place the final result on an invitation card as well containing the hand-written statement from the palace manager inside, as it is shown bellow in result image.
